Early Life and Career

Valentina began her combat sports journey at five when she began learning Taekwondo. She later began Muay Thai Kickboxing at the age of 12 and then Vale Tudo. Shevchenko’s kickboxing journey began around the age of 12, when she beat an unbeaten 22-year-old in a knockout. Valentina went on to record a kickboxing score of 57-2, and a professional record in boxing of 2-0.

Shevchenko began her professional MMA debut at the age of 15 in Kyrgyz Federation of Kulatuu. Kyrgyz Federation of Kulatuu that she won by TKO. Valentina was able to go on winning streaks of six throughout her Korean, Russian and Kyrgyz promotions before stepping back in the year 2006.

Following her return after her break in the year 2010, Valentina was a victim of an unpopular loss, before resuming her winning ways and earning an 11-1 record prior to entering the UFC.

Shevchenko made her UFC debut with a very short timeframe in UFC On Fox 17 with Sarah Kaufman who she would lose via split decision. Shevchenko’s first UFC loss would be during her subsequent fight, when she fought Amanda Nunes at UFC 196 and lost by unanimous decision. She would then regain her momentum through beating Holly Holm and Julianna Pena prior to rematching and a title fight against Amanda Nunes for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship. Shevchenko lost a second time to Nunes in a tight fight by the split of a decision in UFC 215 and would go to the Flyweight division following her defeat.

Shevchenko will fight Priscila Cachoeira and lose to Shevchenko in the 2nd round with a back-naked choke in order to win the UFC Women’s Flyweight Title Shot against Nicco Montano at UFC 228. The fight would be cancelled due to the fact that Montano is expected to suffer the side consequences of cutting weight and thus removed from the title. Shevchenko will take on Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship at UFC 231. Valentina Shevchenko would beat Joanna by a unanimous decision to be crowned The first UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion. After winning, Shevchenko would dominate the flyweight division, and hold her title for six consecutive times, including Jessica Eye, Liz Carmouche, Katlyn Chookagian, Jennifer Maia, Jessica Andrade, and Lauren Murphy.
