On April 4 in 2004, Bisping made his professional debut in mixed martial arts in Pride & Glory 2: Battle of the Ages, taking down Steve Mathews through 0:38 submission. The following month at UK MMA Challenge 7: Rage & Fury, Bisping won his first knockout victory with John Weir. Bisping was set to fight the veteran Renato Sobral, who was fighting for the third time in an MMA match in Cage Rage 7, but the opponent pulled out 10 days prior to the show.
