WHY YOU MUST HAVE A PERSONAL HYPEMAN OR PUBLIC RELATIONS (PR) AS AN ARTISTE.

According to wikipedia a hype man in hip hop music and rapping is a backup rapper and/or singer who supports the primary rappers with exclamations and interjections, and who attempts to increase the audience’s excitement with call-and-response chants.
But Music writer Mickey Hess expands the term as follows: “a hype man is a figure who plays a central but supporting role within a group, making his own interventions, generally aimed at hyping up the crowd while also drawing attention to the words of the MC “.

Notable Examples Of Hypemen

Safaree Samuels for Nicki Minaj

Memphis Bleek for Jay-Z

Jay-Z for Big Daddy Kane

Tony Yayo for 50 Cent

Puff Daddy for The Notorious B.I.G.

In Nigeria Special ED or King Special is Davidos Hypeman, while rapper A.O hypes fellow rapper Vector, There is Do2tun, Dadaboi Ehiz, Jimmie etc

On the other hand a Public relations ( PR ) is the practice of managing the spread of information between an individual or an organization (such as a business, government agency, or a nonprofit organization) and the public.

.

.

Public relations may include an organization or individual gaining exposure to their audiences using topics of public interest and news items that do not require direct payment. This differentiates it from advertising as a form of marketing communications .

.

Public relations is the idea of creating coverage for clients for free, rather than marketing or advertising. An example of good public relations would be generating an article featuring a client, rather than paying for the client to be advertised next to the article.

REASONS TO HAVE ONE NOW!!

Many of us don’t really think of how music is available to us except that it’s readily available to download off of popular music sites.

But how did that music get to those popular music sites? How are musicians so popular? Is it luck a certain music group became popular? All these questions are easily answered when one looks at the public relations team that helped the group gain ground within the mainstream media.

.

.

Without a good PR team (which may be numerous blogger pushing your stuff out) a musician won’t make it that far. Sure if you are self-publicizing your group, you might get a few local shows and might tour to another city close by, but bands, groups, or solo artists actually get into a position of major popularity by having a publicist that knows what they are doing.

If you want to become famous. The trick is to find a team that can get you out of trouble if you land in hot water. The biggest point I wanted to make about this subject is musicians need help becoming famous. Of course their talent is a big aspect, but without a team who can promote their efforts correctly, the artist might not make it on to the top. And who knows? Maybe now you have a PR career path you are now interested in pursuing?

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PR AND BLOGGER

Since we are in the social media age bloggers play a major role in publicity, but not all bloggers can be PR, and not all PR are bloggers, Bloom, CEO of blooment and inthenewsng for example was/is PR to Danas, another good PR in Bayelsa state is E-mark whom has made a name for himself in that niche and Nanabo for Inimex Entertainment. As a blogger for example I would post a song on my blog and give the links to the artists and they share it them self, or I would share the links on social medias which still back links back to my blog, all I care about is how far my page views are, but as a PR irrespective of the blogs, you even tell your bloggers friends to help put those songs on their blogs, while a blogger just post the song, a PR would write lengthy and in details articles once in a while about you connecting you to the purposed audience.

.

.

A quintessential example of a good PR in Nigeria is FshawKingFisher, the man behind EFCC twitter handle, it is no news how EFCC which is supposed to be a feared agency in the country turned out to be a page where citizens had fun and found humorous, his epic clapbacks and retweets made EFCC had 4times over the followers the had before and related with the public very well.
