56-year old Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon has emerged as the World’s richest man according to the latest statistics by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Bezos recorded a new total fortune of US$171.6 billion, surpassing his previous high of $167.7 billion to displace Microsoft owner, Bill Gates at the top of the rankings.

According to the latest rankings, Bill Gates occupies second place with a net worth of $115 billion, followed by Bernard Arnault ($93 billion), and Mark Zuckerberg ($91.2 billion).

Bezos has experienced an increase in financial fortunes despite the coronavirus pandemic due to an increase in online shopping and activities occasioned by the lockdown.

He gained approximately $56.7 billion in 2020 alone.
