Diamonte Quiava-Valer Harper (born July 2, 1993) professionally known by the name Saweetie is an accomplished American singer and rapper. She is contracted to Warner Records and Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records. High Maintenance, her debut single High Maintenance was released on March 16, 2018.

Saweetie was born in Santa Clara, California, and is of African-American, Creole, and Filipino origin. She started rapping at 14 years old. She went to San Francisco State University where she majored in business and communications.

Saweetie was born in Sacramento, California, where she went to Merrill F. West High School in Tracy. She completed her studies at Monterey Trail High School in Elk Grove. When she was 13 years old she began writing music.

Career

In the year 2012, Saweetie was posting raps in the form of short videos through her Instagram page. In one of her videos, she raps on her beat to American singer Khia‘s My Neck My Back (Lick It), which eventually changed into Icy Grl.

The track was posted on the singer’s SoundCloud during the spring of 2017, and it caught her attention Max Gousse known as a director and A&R executive was her manager. The video went viral on the internet with 100 million views as of May 2020, on YouTube.

In the same month, Saweetie posted an impromptu rap freestyle entitled High Maintenance along with an image of her rhyming lyrics to the track while sitting at home in the kitchen. It also became a hit on the social media platforms Instagram as well as Twitter. In October 2017, she debuted the music video Focus that took inspiration from Gilligan with the band DRAM.

She received the honor of being selected as an Artist of the Week by Tidal as well as one of Pigeons & Planes’ Best New Artists of January 2018. In the course of Super Bowl LII in February 2018, she appeared as a model in Rihanna‘s Fenty Beauty cosmetics line.

My Type reached the top spot at 21 in the Billboard Hot 100, marking Saweetie‘s first Top 40 success. On the 23rd of August 2019, a new version of the track featuring Jhene Aiko and City Girls was released. In September, My Typetopped the Rhythmic Radio charts and was later formally certified as double platinum within the United States.

Saweetie began dating singer Quavo of the now-defunct Migos group in the middle of September 2018. They first came across each other at New York Fashion Week. Then, in March 2021, Saweetie tweeted on her Instagram handle that she was not in a relationship with Quavo.

She also stated on social media she believed Quavo was not faithful and wrote ” Presents don’t band-aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.” In March 2021, footage of a video was discovered.

They are seen together in an altercation physical which allegedly took place in 2020.
