Born and was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She started her career becoming a rapper in the year 2016 and released her debut single, What I Want in the form of What I Want, on SoundCloud. The singer gained attention following the release of her debut single, Money Calling which peaked at the top of the charts, 28th according to the Billboard Hot 100.

In the year 2019, Lakeyah signed an agreement to record 2019 with Quality Control Music and Interscope Records. The mixtape she released was her debut, A Dying Breed in the year 2020.

In the year 2019, following her birthday celebrations, Lakeyah went to celebrate her birthday in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met and toured with the rapper T.I., she was inspired to relocate to Atlanta and was accepted into Atlanta’s Art Institute of Atlanta to study, but dropped out after 2 months.

Career

After dropping out of college, Lakeyah stayed in Atlanta and became famous for the #FirstDayOutChallenge. The rap contest celebrated the rapper Jatavia Shakara Johnson (JT) from the group City Girls after being released from jail. Following the challenge she was signed to Quality Control Music, and her rap freestyle to the song “We Paid” from 42 Dugg and Lil Baby was a hit.

Lakeyah‘s debut track, “Big FlexHER featuring 42 Dugg dropped on the 9th of October, 2020. It received over 400k views in its initial five days and is now more than 3 million views.

Lakeyah‘s debut album “Time’s Up” it was released on the 11th of December in 2020. It featured a track called Female Goat with City Girls and the beat sounded like it came from The Midwest from Detroit producer Stop Playing by Reuel. It’s been watched more than 16 million times over on YouTube which makes it Lakeyah‘s most watched video. She was appointed as a brand spokesperson in Rihanna‘s line of lingerie, Savage X Fenty in the spring of 2021.

“In Due Time, Lakeyah‘s second album was released on April 9th, 2021. Gucci Mane and Yung Bleu both included songs included on the record. When the album was released she was ranked as the fourth-fastest-growing new artist on Rolling Stone’s Breakthrough 25 charts, behind Cico P.

On the 16th of June, 2021 XXL magazine announced the addition of Lakeyah in their 2021 XXL Freshman Class. This group includes rappers such as Kendrick Lamar Travis Scott, Chance the Rapper as well as Megan Thee Stallion. Megan became the only Milwaukee rapper in the 14-year XXL history to be called a freshman.
