Tyler Perry Opens Vast New Atlanta Movie Studio
One of America’s most popular comic actor and director, Tyler Perry has opened up a massive 330-acre movie studio in Atlanta.
Speaking at the venue, the popular director, challenged his guests not to limit their dreams as a black person and also dream big by revealing the story that prompted the building the first movie studio as a black man. He stated that Oprah’s invitation to Legends ball birthed the idea.
In 2005, Oprah invited me to her Legends Ball,” he revealed. “I saw Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Tom Cruise and Sidney Poitier, and I said, ‘What am I doing here?’ I didn’t know I said it out loud, but Yolanda Adams was sitting next to me and she said, ‘You belong here.’ By the end of the party, I said, ‘I’m going to dream bigger.’ It was something about being in Oprah’s house, being in her presence, seeing what a black person had accomplished — it really, really spoke to me.”
Appreciating all his guests during the speech, Perry added:
“For people to drop what they’re doing in their very busy schedules to come and join me in this moment is beyond anything I could’ve imagined. It makes me happy. It makes me want to cry. It makes me grateful. It’s just I’m beyond,” Perry said
Perry invited many of his frequent collaborators to his fete, such as Oprah Winfrey, Cecily Tyson, Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, Whoopi Goldberg, and Keshia Knight Pulliam Spike Lee, Ava DuVernay, Beyoncé, Jay Z and Halle Berry, along with politicos such as John Lewis, Bernice King and Stacey Abrams.
