The twins were were raised in China prior to moving into Tennessee, USA when they were only 8 years old. They currently reside in California and are of English and Han Chinese descent.

Alex Alan and Alan formed part of an YouTube collective channel called Sunset Park in 2017. They were participant for more than one year prior to going on a break from YouTube. The twins were then released after a brief warning.
But, they continued to film the remainder of the video in the same prank just after four hours at the University of California, Irvine. The police were again able to catch them in Irvine and, this time, they detained them. In August of 2020 Stokes Twins were arrested in August 2020. Stokes Twins were accused of false imprisonment caused through violence, threat or fraud, as well as not reporting an emergency related to the film.
The attorneys of the twins have stated that the twins aren’t in any way guilty of the charges. The officers involved in the initial prank were reportedly given ideas on how to make the video, and one brother has reportedly called the emergency line from the Irving Police Department twice to inform the police department that they planned to make a prank film before filming.
Their lawyers also raised concerns regarding the amount of time that taken between the footage and the charges that took about 10 months to come forward, and also that they did not learn that they were being charged until the department had released information to the media about the same.
On April 1, 2021 the twins agreed to plead guilty of all the charges. But, they were able to stay out of jail. The twins were sentenced which included required 150 hours of service in the community. They were also required to undergo probation, in addition to paying Restitution. The Stokes brothers were also barred of being on Irvine campus, which is part of the University of California, where they made a second prank using identical video. Stokes twins have been accused of copying content from other YouTubers.
