Some Interesting Interviews with Frances Ben
As a child aspiring to be an actress who was your role model?
Genevieve! I’m sure she was my top choice. I also like Omotola, however, Genevieve was the most popular… even among the other guys, I would still choose one of them, like RMD and Ramsey Nouah as well as Desmond Elliot. However, Genevieve was at the top of the list.

What brought you to acting?
When I was older, I often told my mom that I wanted to become a musician. However, I didn’t make it a priority. At the time, I was 15, and I graduated from secondary school. which was around 2008/2009. 16 when I began modeling, which was a success. I didn’t know anything about modeling I was just a “mgbeke” girl. To me, I was considered to be the best within my circle. When I look back at my photos from the time I’d like to ask “is this you?’ might be thinking something similar.
At an age, I quit modeling I simply picked up an acting field since I’ve always been a fan of the entertainment business. I was sure that at some point I’d like to be in the entertainment industry and that’s how I decided to pursue my interest in it. It was just an inclination that came up and that’s when I began. Then my parents were completely supportive they weren’t against my acting or entering show business in any way.
They let me stay for days in the sun and when I was young and even when I was modeling, they were supportive. At the time, I was 17 and was due to be 18 in the same year. I thought “okay let me get started modeling to keep me active as well.
I began with modeling and it was successful. Then, in 2012, I began acting in my normal auditions and such to perform. If I audition for any auditions they choose me however, they do not film at the time of the event due to various reasons, like insufficient funds. It was Ghana in the first place I came with. I was a part of a series that I’m not able to recall the title of; I was unable to go to it.
This was the same as the year 2014, which was a few years later. Since I was just going to auditions, I never invest my whole heart into it. I knew I was passionate about acting, but due to my studies and everything else. The time I began acting in 2014, I was in and out due to studies.
Every newbie encountered a hurdle. What were your challenges as a woman entering the field?
Yes, I did. It was a matter of fact that I was not getting the jobs I had hoped for. Then, the people you meet (you know that this is a typical phenomenon in the field) they’d like to have a sleepover with you and all this. If you don’t stay together, then you can’t receive roles. I believe that’s partly true, but I don’t think that’s the primary reason I didn’t have the roles (laughing). Then I didn’t focus on the roles since I’m a very principled person. I think when I’m trying to get employment, I’m entitled to the opportunity, not doing the opposite to obtain it.
