Amanda began training MMA beginning in 2007. She made her debut on the professional circuit during 2008’s Prime MMA Championship 2, which she fell in the first round due to an armbar submission. Nunes will make the UFC debut against Sheila Gaff at UFC 163 in which she won during the opening round with TKO (Punches as well as Elbows). She would then win her next bout with Germaine de Randamie, in the first round, but lose in the third round to Cat Zingano at UFC 178 in the third, via submission. Nunes was able to bounce back and go on a dominant 3 fight-win streak and win an opportunity to win her first UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship against Miesha Tate who was then champion. Amanda was able to dominate Tate and win the bout in the opening round by executing a the rear naked choke, becoming her new UFC Bantamweight Champion and the first openly gay UFC Champion.
Nunes will fight for her championship against Rona Rousey, twice in the past against Valentina Shevchenko, and Raquel Pennington before advancing to featherweight, where she would fight Cris Cyborg in UFC 232 for the UFC Women’s Featherweight Championship. Amanda defeated Cyborg in the very first minute of the fight, becoming the first female champion from two divisions to be crowned in UFC history. After being crowned the champion of 2 divisions, Nunes would defend go back to defend her bantamweight title in a fight against Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie, and then return to featherweight to beat Megan Anderson at UFC 259 to extend her UFC winning streak to 12.
