Kendrick Lamar, Tech N9ne, and More Pay Respects to Dead Philly Battle Rapper Tech 9
Respected Philadelphia-based rapper Tech 9, The Source reports. Real name Akeem Mickens, Tech 9—not to be confused with Strange Music founder Tech N9ne—was considered an icon in the world of battle rap.
The news did cause some confusion on Twitter, with some mistaking him for Tech N9ne. Both rappers’ names were trending on social media, with some making sure to clarify for those who hadn’t heard of the Ultimate Rap League competitor and commentator. Among those to mistakenly pay respects to N9ne was YBN Cordae.
