Kashim Shettima Mustapha, a highly regarded Nigerian politician and banker, was born on September 2, 1966. As of 2019, he has been serving as the Senator representing Borno Central. Prior to his senatorial role, he held the position of Governor of Borno State from 2011 until 2019.

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kashim Shettima was selected to run as the vice-presidential candidate alongside Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election. His educational background includes earning degrees from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Ibadan.

Alhaji Kashim Shettima was born on September 2, 1966, in Shettimari, a town located in Maiduguri, Borno State, into the family of Alhaji Shettima Mustafa Kuttayibe. He began his formal education at Lamisula Primary School in Maiduguri, where he studied from 1972 until 1978. Following his primary education, he continued his secondary schooling at Government Community Secondary School from 1978 to 1980. Kashim Shettima then proceeded to Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum, which is now part of neighboring Yobe State, and completed his secondary education there in 1983.

In pursuit of higher education, Kashim Shettima attended the University of Maiduguri, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Agricultural Economics in 1989. Building on this academic foundation, he furthered his studies at the University of Ibadan, located in Southwest Nigeria, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics in 1991.

Shortly after completing his master’s, between 1991 and 1993, Kashim Shettima embarked on an academic career, serving as a lecturer in the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of Maiduguri.
