Rhian Joel Brewedster is an English professional footballer. He plays as a striker at Championship club Swansea City on loan from Liverpool and for the England U21 team. He was part of the England team that won the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, India. Brewster was born in Chadwell Heath (Greater London). He attended Chadwell Heath Primary School and then joined the Shield Academy YFC and Chadwell Heath. He was seven years old when he was approached by representatives of West Ham United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Charlton Athletic. He eventually joined Chelsea, where he learned his game with Michael Beale at the club’s academy. He left Liverpool to join Premier League rivals Liverpool.

After Beale had recommended Brewster to Liverpool, Liverpool signed Brewster in 2015 from Chelsea. Brewster made the decision to move to Liverpool because of his father’s influence. He believed that he was more likely to break through to the first team via Liverpool’s academy rather than Chelsea’s. After joining the club’s U18 team, he was promoted to the U23 team. He scored his debut goal against Ipswich Town. Brewster joined the club’s academy during his time there. He was then placed on a special training program that included one-on-1 sessions with Steve McManaman, a former Liverpool and Real Madrid winger.

Jurgen Klopp called Brewster up to the first team for club friendlies in November and October 2016. During which he scored a hat trick against Accrington Stanly, He was then named on the bench for Liverpool’s Premier League match against Crystal Palace on 23/04/2017, but he was not used. In the UEFA Youth League match against Spartak Moscow in the following season, Brewster was subject to racial comments by Leonid Mirov, Spartak’s captain. UEFA opened an investigation into the incident after the match. Brewster later stated in an interview with The Guardian, that this was the seventh such instance he’d had, even though he had had one against the same opposition. UEFA decided that Mironov was not in sufficient evidence to warrant further action.

Brewster was injured in an aerial challenge that landed him awkwardly on the U23 match against Manchester City. He received oxygen and was taken off the field. Later, he was diagnosed with a high ankle strain and associated ligament damage. He was out of action for the rest of the season. He had to have a second operation in March to correct the damage to his knee that he had sustained in the same incident. Brewster was the focus of intense transfer speculation towards the end of the season. Liverpool cancelled a friendly against Borussia Monchengladbach because the German club had allegedly ‘tapped him up.

Brewster signed a five year professional contract with Liverpool in June 2018. Brewster was selected in the match squad for Liverpool’s 2018-19 Champions League semifinal against Barcelona on 7 Mai 2019, but he was a unused substitute. Brewster, despite never playing in a competitive match for the club was again on the bench in the 2019 UEFA Champions League Final against Tottenham Hotspur. He received a winner’s medal and Liverpool won 2-0.

On 25 September 2019, he made his competitive debut in a match against Milton Keynes Dons in the EFL Cup.

Brewster joined Championship side Swansea City as a loanee on 7 January 2020. On 12 January 2020, he made his debut in the South Wales derby against Cardiff City. The match ended in a draw. Six days later, he scored the first professional goal against Wigan Athletic at Liberty Stadium.

INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Brewster, an England youth international, has represented the country at different youth levels. However, he is still eligible to play for Turkey or Cyprus because his mother is a Turkish Cypriot.

Brewster, who had previously represented England at U16 levels, scored six goals in five appearances in England U17 in 2016, including two hat-tricks against Croatia and one against Germany. Brewster was then the national’s attacking force at the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, and he played in the final against Spain. England lost on penalties to Spain with Brewster being one of the players who missed his spot kick. In six appearances, he scored three goals.

Brewster was a popular figure in the media after scoring consecutive hat-tricks against Brazil and the USA in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup. The team won the trophy 5-2 thanks to Brewster’s goal as England’s first goal in the final. Brewster’s eight goals in the tournament again earned him the Golden Boot award as the top scorer. He was also given the Bronze Ball for individual performances. In a December 2017 interview with The Guardian, Brewster disclosed that his Spanish teammate Morgan Gibbs White had racially abusing him during the match. The FA reported the incident to FIFA.

Brewster, who was born on 30 August 2019, was the first to be included in the England U21 team. He made his debut on the 79th minute of the 3-2 2021 U21 Euro qualifying victory against Turkey.
