He was an Arsenal fan growing up in Catford, and joined Charlton Athletic’s youth team at the age of 10.

Youth Career

Gomez was a 10-year old when he joined Charlton Athletic’s youth setup.

Gomez, in an interview from 2017,, spoke highly of the London club’s academy and highlighted how it helped him as a player.

Gomez stated that “Charlton’s academy is a shining example of how great it can be with the talent it produces.” It has such a great infrastructure, and young players are offered opportunities to play.

“There are many great staff there – I mentioned Steve Avory, a few others. They have been the foundations for the academy for many decades and their talent has proven it.

Gomez made it through the Charlton youth system and was first allowed to play for the Under-18 team at the age of 13.

Gomez made a total 24 appearances for Charlton in that season, which included 21 runs-outs at the Championship.

His outstanding performances were not lost on the club and Liverpool FC was soon in sight.

Gomez made his Premier League debut and club debut for Liverpool FC in August 2015. He started as a left-back against Stoke City and scored the assist for Philippe Coutinho’s winner in the 85th minute.

Gomez’s 2018-19 season was interrupted by injury. He broke his leg during a match with Burnley in December 2018. However, he made nine appearances in Champions League for Reds. Jurgen Klopp won the title. In the 2019 Champions League final victory over Tottenham Hotspur, he was substituted.

Gomez played 28 Premier League games for Liverpool FC the following season as he helped them win their first title in club history.

International Career

Gomez represented England at different youth levels, and won the 2014 European Championships in Malta with England’s Under-17 side.
