Tobechukwu Melvin Okafor (born 30 December 1979) who is popularly known by the name Illbliss is 42 years old. He is a well-known Nigerian music producer, rapper-actor, musician, and executive.

He is the CEO and founder of The Goretti Company, which is believed to have launched the careers of pop stars, Chidinma and Phyno.

Since becoming a household name in 2008, he’s developed over time into an international music sensation.

In the inaugural Soundcity Music Video Awards in 2008, he was awarded the award for the best hip-hop video for his hit song, U Go Wound.

Was in 2009 when he dropped the critically-acclaimed debut album Dat Ibo Boy. Happily, his newest album, Illy Chapo X was released in 2020, during the outbreak.

Early Life

Illbliss was born to Ibo parents in the southeast of Nigeria. He was raised within the Catholic religion by his parents both of whom were Christians.

His early years were spent within the South East, learning the customs and the background of the Ibo people. This is why the Ibo boy learned to speak his native language, Igbo. Illblisswas born on the 30th of December 1979. He was born in Enugu State, Nigeria.

In elementary school, students were taught English spoken by the teachers. In his home, along with his neighbors, He spoke the Igbo dialect and, more often than not mixed it along with Pidgin English.

As a kid in the southeast of Nigeria, He was exposed to lots of folklore and highlife music composed by famous Ibo musicians. By listening to the radio on a regular basis, he encountered rap music by Western musicians and songs by musicians like Fela Kuti, Sonny Okosun, Charly Boy, King Sunny Ade Sir Shina Peters, and others.

Being influenced by these artists has shaped his determination to create music. Thus, Illbliss began creating rap lyrics in English that he then performed for the enjoyment of peers and classmates. In a bid to showcase his native dialect and to connect with the people in his area, He decided to try his hand at Igbo rap.

After he had done a couple of songs of rap after which he realized that he prefers the rapping style of Igbo rather than English and stayed with the former.

Education

Illbliss is a member of a family who places a lot of importance on education. His parents ensured that he got an education of the highest quality up to the university level.

He earned the First School Leaving Certificate and West African School Certificate from leading private schools within the South East region.

Then, Illbliss studied to earn a Bachelor’s degree from an internationally renowned university located within the South East. He was awarded a top grade from the school after four years.

Illbliss’s debut into the world of professional music started in his college days when he was a performer at departmental and faculty events as well as shows and concerts on campus. He impressed many undergraduates through his humorous and relatable rap rap lines. They were his first group of followers.

The music video for the track was awarded Best Hip-hop Music Video at the 2008 Soundcity Music Video Awards. Following U Go Wound O’s release U Go Wound, Illblissbegan making his debut album. After many hours at the recording studios, he finally made the album Dat Ibo Boyavailable to the public in 2009. The album became a commercial success and sold thousands of copies in Nigeria. Additionally, the album’s first song, Aiye Pon Gan ( Enuf Space) was instrumental in helping the project to sell a lot of copies.

Because there was already a voice to be reckoned with in the music industry, Illblissdecided to follow his calling to entrepreneurship. Thus, he established the record label the Goretti Company, which also served as a Talent Management Company. The company has seen success in this venture in music and has been credited with aiding musicians such as Phyno, and Chidinma to find their way into the music industry and develop successful careers. This is why Illblissis one of the most prominent music managers on the continent.

He joined forces with fellow rapper Teck Zilla to record their album together, IllyZilla. The album was released in the year 2019.

In the year 2020, Illblissthrilled his fans with a new album with the release of his debut album Illy Chapo Illblissthrilled X. Although he stuck the same trademark Igbo rapper style, it was evident to the listeners that he’d grown through the years. The album, his seventh album as the rapper was nominated in the most outstanding Rap album category in 2020 The Headies.

Illbliss is also known under the name, Oga Boss. The name stuck with the singer after the release of his second album in 2012. The actor from Igbo is a major factor in the Nigerian music industry and has played part in the rise of a variety of emerging musicians.

Illbliss is also a renowned actor. He made his debut in the film by appearing in the blockbuster film King Of Boys. In the movie, He played the part of the mafia’s boss Odogwu Malay who won the hearts of a lot of Nigerians through his stellar acting skills. He reprised his role as Odogwu Malay in the sequel: The King Of Boys 2.
