Early Life

Alex Morgan was born Alexandra Patricia Morgan Carrasco, July 2, 1989 in San Dimas (California), USA to Michael T. Morgan & Pamela S. She was raised in Diamond Bar, California with her older sisters Jeni and Jeri.

She was a multisport athlete from her childhood. She attended ‘Diamond Bar High School,’ where she showed potential in speed and sprinting. She was named All-American by the ‘National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

At 14 years old, she joined Cypress Elite. This marked her debut in club soccer. She was part the club team that won the under-16 Coast Soccer League championship. She also achieved third place in the club team’s Under-19 division.

At age 17, she was selected for the United States women’s under-20 national soccer team. However, due to an anteriorcruciate ligament (ACL), injury, she couldn’t play until April 2008.

She was also a member of the state and regional teams of the ‘Olympic Development Program (ODP).

She graduated one semester earlier from University of California Berkeley with a degree of Political Economy. She was a member of the ‘California Golden Bears,’ where she played from 2007 through 2010. She was the first Californian player to be named among the top three finalists in the ‘Hermann Trophy’ during her junior year.

She made her international debut at 2008 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship in Puebla (Mexico), where she played against Cuba and scored her first international goal.

She was awarded the U.S. Soccer Female Award of the Year in 2012.

In 2013, she was named CONCACAF Female Soccer Player of the Year. From 2013 to 2015 she played for the Portland Thorns FC, which she joined through National Women’s Soccer League Player Allocation.
