The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, has revealed that the association was in discussion with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over the ban on Okada and Keke Napep.

The ban took effect from Saturday, February 1, 2020.

The ban also affected Oride, Gokada and other motorcycle hailing services.

The Lagos State govt stated that Apapa, Yaba, Surulere, Ikeja, Lagos Island, Ikoyi Obalende, Lagos Mainland, Itire-Ikate and Coker-Aguda would be affected by the ban.

As a result of the ban, Okada riders on Monday clashed with operatives of the Nigeria Police in Lagos State.

The Okada riders had gone on a rampage and begun to smash vehicles and block roads, in reaction to the ban on their activities.

According to an eyewitness, motorcycle riders and the Police clashed in Apapa and Surulere areas of the state.

Speaking to newsmen through his aide, Jimoh Buhari, MC Oluomo said his team was meeting with the state government over the ban.

He revealed that he was also meeting with bus drivers to persuade them not to increase fares, which could worsen the effect of the ban on commuters.

“The most important thing, for now, is for the bus drivers not to take advantage of the situation, and that is why we are meeting with them,” MC Oluomo said.
