Fire Razes Popular Market In Edo

Goods worth several millions of naira have been destroyed after an inferno that attacked the biggest spare parts market in Edo state.

The inferno occurred at midnight, Tuesday, August 13, destroyed items worth millions of Naira.

The inferno was reported to have started at about 11:45pm Monday night and lasted till about 4am after joint efforts by the officials of the fire servicemen from the University of Benin and the Nigerian Army.

The market is located at Uwelu, in Egor Local Government Area of the state, was burnt to an almost beyond state of recognition with the sections of Mercedes Benz, Mazda, Ford and Toyota been burnt.

It was gathered that some of the affected traders just bought goods to fill their stores before the inferno incident.

Some of the traders collapsed when they visited the scene only to behold their goods been destroyed by the fire.
