Finally, Iran Govt Breaks Silence On El-Zakzaky’s Continued Detention

El-Zakzaky

The Prosecutor-General of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mohammed Montazeri, has called on the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to release the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

According to AhlulBayt News Agency, an Iran-based news organisation, Montazeri, in a letter last Saturday, urged the judiciary to allow El-Zakzaky to come to Iran for medical treatment.

The Prosecutor-General of Iran called on the judiciary to grant bail to El-Zakzaky who is the leader of all Shi’ites in Nigeria.

“I, as the prosecutor general of the Islamic Republic of Iran, urge the Nigerian judicial authorities (to take steps) in line with their judicial independence and support for a captive citizen, and provide the ground for his release and transfer him to the Islamic Republic of Iran for treatment,” Montazeri said.

He lamented the medical condition of the Shiite leader, saying El-Zakzaky’s condition has become a source of worry.

Iran, which is the stronghold of the Shi’a Muslim faith, has been demanding the release of the IMN for over three years despite reports that the Presidency has asked for Iran to withdraw support for the Shi’ite leader.

Shiites members have constantly protested the continuous detention of the IMN leader.

In recent time, the protests have become more aggressive leading to the deaths of Shi’ites, security officials and innocent Nigerians caught in the crossfire.
