Coronavirus: Lagos Govt To Begin Clinical Trials For COVID-19 Cure

Professor, Akin Abayomi, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, has revealed that there are plans to commence coronavirus clinical trials in the state.

Abayomi made this known while speaking to newsmen in Ikeja on Monday.

According to the Health Commissioner, the clinical trials would be in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and other institutions.

“There are a lot of research going on around the world, so it is possible that at some time in the near future, we will have what we may describe as a definitive cure for COVID-19,” he said.

“Indeed we are setting up our own clinical trials in Lagos in collaboration with other institutions and the NCDC and hopefully by this time next week, we should have started some clinical trials on our patients and on our staff in Lagos State.”

Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Monday, confirmed six new cases of coronavirus in the country.

The NCDC confirmed two cases each in Kwara and Edo, and one case each in Rivers and Abuja, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 238.

“Six new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria: 2 in Kwara, 2 in Edo, 1 in Rivers and 1 in the FCT. As at 09:30 pm 6th April there are 238 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Thirty-five have been discharged with five deaths,” the NCDC tweet read.
